Compassionate Friends
There are many resources available for parents who have experienced the death of a child, to help them
manage and process their grief. One outstanding resource is called Compassionate Friends, whose mission is
to provide assistance and support to families following the death of a child of any age, and to provide
information to help friends and loved ones be supportive. There are more than 600 chapters of the
organization across all 50 states and Washington D.C., as well as in more than 30 countries around the
world. The chapters hold meetings where bereaved parents and family members can listen, learn, and gain
coping skills from others who have also experienced the death of a child, in a caring, safe, supportive
environment.
The Compassionate Friends website provides
visitors with information regarding a wide variety of resources on a host of topics including regional and
national conferences and events, locations and contact information for all local chapters, links to related
websites, videos, news, books, and research articles. Founded 40 years ago, the Compassionate Friends
Network can be an invaluable resource to parents, family members, and friends as they begin to move through
the grieving process following the death of a child.
